Tree Service - Removal, Trimming & Pruning

When trimming and pruning trees, less is best. If a live branch from your tree is removed there is a reason for it. The idea that the lower branches of all trees need to be trimmed way up for health is a myth. Most of our trimming and pruning work is crown cleaning. Crown cleaning pruning targets weak, dead, and diseased branches.

A Cut Above’s Pruning and Trimming Objectives are as follows:

Pruning lower branches from a tree in order to provide clearance for buildings, vehicles, pedestrians, and views.

Pruning dead, broken, diseased, crowded, weakly attached and low-vigor branches from the crown of a tree. Unless otherwise noted on the proposal, all cleaning will be of branches 2 inches in diameter or greater.

Selective pruning to increase light penetration and air movement through the crown. Thinning opens the foliage of a tree, reduces weight on heavy limbs, and helps retain the tree’s natural shape.

Pruning to reduce the size of a tree, often for clearance of utility lines and structures. Reducing the height or spread of a tree is best accomplished by pruning back the leaders and branch terminals to lateral branches that are large enough to assume the terminal role. In most cases, a single branch or group of branches can be reduced to accomplish the pruning objective. Compared to topping, reduction helps maintain the form and structural integrity.

Selective pruning to improve the structure, form, and appearance of trees that have been damaged, topped, or vandalized.

We do NOT top trees – Topping is malpractice and is not acceptable in our industry. Topping is expensive and insures future decay and hazard.

Tree Removal

A Cut Above’s goal is to make a tree removal plan that fits each customer’s expectations and budget.

Tree removals, big and small, are dangerous and should be handled by a professional. We have the skills, equipment, and experience to remove your tree safely.

There are many ways to remove a tree. Traditionally, trees in an urban environment need to be dismantled by climbing or using a lift. Branches and logs can be lowered safely to the ground to avoid damaging property, lawn, and landscape. If the customer is on a tight budget or looking for value, branches and logs can be cut and dropped causing minor lawn damage but speeding up the process and saving money. Felling a tree whole is fast and economical. If the job site is large enough this option can save time and money.

Lot Clearing

What trees should go, what trees should stay, what should be removed related to the construction project are the often-asked questions related to tree removal. A Cut Above’s goal is to work with the customer to protect their long-term investment both in the current construction project and preservation of existing trees.
